Cellulose insulation

Is cellulose insulation right for you?

The short answer is yes. When it comes to thermal and acoustic insulation, cellulose insulation is the superior solution. In fact, early forms of cellulose insulation may have been the first form of building insulation materials ever used. It's tried, and tried, and true. So what's the long answer? Glad you asked.

What is cellulose insulation?

Cellulose insulation is a loose material made almost entirely from processed, recycled or reused plant fiber. Normally, that means shredded and processed newspapers, cardboard, or other post consumer pressed wood fiber materials. The part of cellulose insulation that's not reused plant fibers is one of many fire retardant components, like boric acid or ammonium sulphate.

Importance of cellulose insulation

The use of cellulose insulation in your wall and roof cavities keeps your home well insulated. That means keeping you warmer when it's cold outside, and cool when it's warm. It also means keeping the roar of your neighbor's lawn mower, the honk and growl of traffic, and all of those other noises right where they belong - outside. Loose filled cellulose insulation gets just about everywhere inside your walls and in your roof cavity - around pipes, electrical boxes, and other fixtures. That means there won't be any pockets of air or empty space in your walls or roof cavity, and no empty spaces means drastically less heat and noise gets through.

Cost savings from cellulose insulation

Cellulose insulation can be far less expensive to manufacture and install, on account of it being made almost entirely of reused or recycled materials. That's not all, either. Cellulose insulation is so effective at insulating your home or office, it could save you 20 to 50 percent on your utility bills. Now that's savings that speak for themselves.
