Duct insulation
What is Duct Insulation?
When a home has a central heat and air conditioning system, there is generally metal ductwork that carries the conditioned air from the unit to the rooms of the house. Duct insulation is used to wrap the ductwork, this allows for the air conditioning system to perform more efficiently.
Importance of Duct Insulation.
Without duct insulation there are problems that will arise. Metal ductwork has a high thermal transfer rate, this means that conditioned air will lose the majority of its coolness or heat as it travels through the ductwork. Condensation is another major problem, if no duct insulation is installed. When cool air travels through metal ductwork, condensation forms on the metal and can then saturate the area around the duct. This can lead to water damage to interior products and can favour the growth of mould.
Cost Savings from Duct Insulation.
Utilizing duct insulation in a central heating and cooling system will allow the system to perform more efficiently, which will reduce the amount of energy required to maintain a comfortable temperature inside the home. With the system running efficiently, the major components of the system will have a longer operating life and overall maintenance costs will also be reduced.
