Pipe Insulation Is A Cost-Efficient Investment. Pipe insulation is a preformed sectional tube that fits snugly around your water pipes to prevent heat from escaping. When hot water moves through pipes, it loses heat to the surrounding area. You may remember heat transfer from Physics class. Water constantly tries to achieve ambient temperature. That's why a cold beverage placed on the kitchen table eventually becomes distastefully warm.
