Sheet insulation
Sheet Foam Insulation Adds Protection, Soundproofing There are several types of sheet foam insulation which are effective methods of insulating buildings.
Molded expanded polystyrene sheet foam (MEPS) has the consistency of a board and is easy to use in a variety of applications. Extruded expanded polystryrene sheet foam (XEPS), more costly than the molded expanded version, also has more desireable features including durability, resistance to moisture and more consistent product density.
Polyurethane sheet insulation is the next best upgrade that provides more efficient insulation than its MEPS or XEPS counterparts.
One of the best reasons to choose sheet foam insulation is when you need an effective insulation application in a restricted space. Sheet that is only an inch thick has the capability of providing three times as effective insulation as other insulation methods of the same dimensions. Sheet foam provides a more compact insulation than traditional fiberglass, and does a better job of preventing air flow.
Sheet foam is very user-friendly for the do-it-yourselfer, requiring no special cutting tools or machines. Sheet foam is versatile enough to be cut to suit the project, and adds a layer of soundproofing as well.
The cost of sheet foam may prove a drawback for certain budgets, but less is needed to effectively do its job. One option is make this insulation insect-proof is to purchase sheets to which insect repellant has already been applied during the manufacturing process. Applications can also be made to ensure that the sheet is fire retardant.
