Wall insulation

What is wall insulation?

Wall insulation is one of the key elements in the construction of a temperature controlled room. Adherence to proper installation insures a consistent and energy efficient room temperature.

Did you know that 50 to 70% of the energy used in an average home goes to heating and cooling? Wall insulation saves money, and energy resources, by making rooms more energy efficient: keeping floors, walls and ceilings warmer in the winter and cooler during the summer months.

Installing wall insulation provides comfort by retaining heat and cooling, by reducing air leakage and by controlling moisture in the walls. Insulation is available in a variety of types, these can include rolled fiberglass batts, blankets, loose fill or sprayed insulation. The density of each type of insulation is measured on a scale based in R-value. The R-value rates the insulation's thermal resistance. A higher R-value means a higher insulating effectiveness.

Wall insulation is predominately fitted into the cavities between studded wall supports and is then walled from view by drywall. Adding insulation is an economical way to manage heating and cooling costs in any building.

Added to its economical benefits, it is fairly simple to install. With a little effort and a bit of preparatory work, the installation of wall insulation could likely be an easy do it yourself project.
